I.S.C.G.B Grouse Pointing Test Wemmergill Moor. Middleton-in-Teesdale.

Saturday March 28th 2009.

Judges: Maureen Nixon & Penny Pickstone.

Steward of Beat; Andy Page [keeper of Wemmergill Moor].

Chief Steward: Ray Davies – Summary.

Well another visit has come around to Wemmergill Moor and it was to be a successful meeting with 18 dogs running, but at the end of the day the two reserve dogs were invited by the judges to run so a total of 20 dogs had the experience of the day.

It was to be an experience!!!!!!!!!!!! for everyone as the weather was to test all present as we started with strong cold winds and showers of snow up to blizzard conditions, which slowly abated. With the aid of the keeper we were able to give the juniors a head wind, but it came down to the partnerships to cope with the prevailing conditions which did not stop the flow of grouse that we saw all day over the ground, in some numbers.

So at the end of the day two grades were awarded by the judges.

No 10. Trudvang Balder. GWP Bitch. Handler; Mr. Chris Gray. Junior. Very Good.

No  18 Freshetin Lentiggine I.S Bitch. Handler   Mrs. Jean Baldwin. Adult Good.

To add to this about the dogs in the awards the keeper was very impressed by these two handlers ability in the partnership with their respective dogs to cope with the appalling winter conditions, as both ‘Worked’ with their dogs in covering their beat and finding the grouse and giving a lesson to others on finding and pointing the grouse and the flush to everyone’s delight and appreciation.

It is worth mentioning in respect of our Spinone handler Jean Baldwin that throughout the day people kept coming up to say that they had heard about her dog and how well it had done in WT’s and FT’s, so were looking forward to seeing her run [Pressure on a handler before they ran and being the last to run she had a gallery watching her every move!!!].

We had several Spinoni running on the day and I include them all in the roll call below:

Sonarbra Appiana. Dog.  Handler  Michelle Hurrell.       North Yorkshire.

Sanjika Arabica.    Bitch. Handler  Gillie Gormarsall.     Suffolk.

Sanjika Amarena   Bitch. Handler  Robyn Griffin.         Bucks.

Sanjika Kamuzu    Dog.   Handler  Stuart Griffin.         Bucks.

All these had a super run on the day having grouse on their runs, by attacking their beat with gusto, which everyone present [keeper & judges] felt did great service to the ‘Working Italian Spinone..
